Dr Dr Naheed Dosani

Palliative care physician, health justice advocate

Keynote Speaker

Professional Bio

“There’s a growing recognition of the limits of how we deliver health care to marginalized populations. From the most superficial level, to the deepest roots in society, we can have impact through the lens of equity, health and empathy.

To what degree we make that change is up to each one of us.”

Based in Toronto, Canada, Naheed cares for homeless and vulnerably housed individuals with dignity and compassion.  His experiences and advocacy provide insight into the critical need to support access to palliative care for marginalized populations.

Dr Dosani holds faculty appointments at the University of Toronto, Ontario and McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. His research interests include care models for people experiencing homelessness and access to palliative care among culturally diverse communities.

A transformative experience providing care to a homeless man at the end of his life motivated Dr Dosani to develop the PEACH program (Palliative Education And Care for the Homeless), a program of the Inner City Health Associates – providing health services for people experiencing homelessness in Toronto. PEACH delivers community-based hospice palliative care to society’s most vulnerable individuals regardless of their housing status or factors such as poverty or substance use. This care model has inspired similar programs in cities around the world and led to the development of Journey Home Hospice, Toronto’s first hospice for people experiencing homelessness.

During COVID, Dr Dosani’s leadership efforts include serving as Medical Director for a COVID-19 Isolation/Homeless Program located in the Region of Peel, one of Canada’s hardest hit regions.
