Presentation Description

Institution: ZEN Occupational Therapy / Swell Therapies / GenesisCare - Qld, Australia

This is designed to be a hands-on and interactive workshop for all clinicians working within palliative care.  It aims to explore the challenges faced with managing oedema in the palliative patient, and strategies / treatments that can be implemented to manage the oedema to lessen symptomatic burden and increase quality of life.

Acute on chronic oedema and lymphoedema is widely presented within the palliative population, and has significant impacts on bladder control, mobility, pressure care, wound care, comfort and positioning.

The workshop aims to provide palliative care clinicians with the tools and strategies to manage oedema through the use of bandaging, massage, kinesiotaping, and the gentle compression options available. A wide range of compression garments, bandaging techniques, gentle massage and additional strategies will be made available and discussed throughout the workshop. A hands-on and interactive approach within a large group setting will be facilitated, with 2 senior therapists who have 10+  years of experience in the management of oedema / lymphoedema within the oncological / palliative care environment.
